Career Development Events

Posted by mcjohnson on March 5, 2015 at 10:50 PM Comments comments (0)

We have had many members compete in a variety of career development events.  We even did events that we've never done before, which I believe shows great leadership skills. Many of these students are afraid to talk in front of the class but they are willing to put their fear aside and compete in contests in which they have to talk in front of complete strangers.

100 Members

This year marks a milestone for our FFA Chapter!  We reached 100 members!!!  We are very fortune for this to happen.  Being in a small school setting, we only have 150 kids in our whole high school and we have the majority out for FFA.  This would not be possible without all the support we revieve from our community and staff and of course our awesome student advisors that go out and recruit!  We have switched our traditional 8 class periods a day to block scheduling which has helped many students fit an agriculture project in their schedule.  This was a goal at our officer retreat this year, and it's great to see a goal get achieved!

Science Fair to Nationals

We had two individuals compete at the National level with their science fair project.  They competed in the state science fair competition in Ames last year and recieved a Gold and a 1st place in their division which then advanced them to nationals.  They competed at Nationals and walked away with a silver.  They did a great job.  This year we have 6 different science fair projects that will be competing at the state level at the end of March.  Good Luck to All.

3D Bow Shoot

This year was our first ever 3D Bow Shoot.  We have a lot of hunters in our FFA Chapter as well as community people and we thought that this would be a good event and fundraiser for everyone.  A local archery business let us borrow there targets and we had a great deal of businesses supply as with either money or good in which we used as prizes.  We had t-shirts made for this event, and had a lot of other FFA Chpaters around us enter.  It was a great 2 day event, took a lot of planning but our officers did a great job hosting it.  This is definietly an event we will do each year!

FFA Appreciation Supper

This year's FFA Apprection Supper was a huge success!  We had many people attend such as community leaders, parents, relatives, staff and faculty.  This was our chance to say "Thank You" to everyone that has helped make our FFA chapter so successful.  We would not be able to do it without the great support we recieve.  This year we had a baked potato bar with free-will offering and it turned out great.  We also sold raffle tickets for a pair of FFA boots prior to the event and drew the winner that night.  One of our very own, hard working officers won the boots, couldn't have gone to a better person!  We will continue to host an appreciation supper during FFA Week each year to show our gratitude to others.
